After almost 700 years, the hybrid hypercar D-12 makes a round of the market after French automaker Delage resurged from the post-WWll competition under the conduct of Laurent Tapie (the entrepreneur-financial CEO and refounder of Delage).
He projected a driven and progressive idea of launching a road-approved Formula 1 that could entice hypercar collectors’. For his project to come to terms, he encircled himself with engineers and experienced Formula 1 professionals.
D-12, Glorious Emblem of French Luxury Automobile
Since the early 20th century, Delage withstands the glorious emblem of French luxury automobile products. Therefore, it marvels both in racing and on-road, earning the esteemed ‘World Champion of Car Builders” title in 1927.
Their state-of-the-art hypercar D-12 strives to break the fastest-ever lap record at the glorious Nürburgring. This beast is poles apart from the company’s single-cylinder race cars, for which they were famous in the 20s and 30s.
Speed of Delage D-12
The D-12 comes at a 7.5-liter V-12 engine that produces 990 horsepower, deep sounds resonate from its pipes, and along with its cylinders can be found a 110-hp electric motor. In contrast, the track-orientated D-12 Club is placed with a 20-hp engine which is lighter and less forceful.
The D12 GT probably contains a battery substantial enough to grant few miles of radiation-free drive. Delage is hushed up on its battery pack insights; however, the D12 proffer to switch to an electric-only mode in cities. The exclusive ‘My Mix’ option of the D12 presents 432 configuration choices for the driver to build their personalized drive mode.
A Powerful Beast
The beast weighs in at only 3064. Thus, according to Delage, D12 makes its way from 0-to- 62 mph in 2.6 seconds and achieves a full pace of approx. 224 mph. However, there is also a second mock-up, the lighter D 12 Club. This weighs 200kg less and shoots to 62mph in 2.9 seconds. It is also slightly less powerful and managed itself less than 6 minutes and 40 seconds in the Nürburgring. D-12 beats GT’s Ring time by 5 seconds due to lesser mass to tug.
“It’s the closest road-legal car ever conceived to a formula 1”, Delage D-12 described by its producers.
Let’s Talk About Exterior
To go along with the raft-like fenders, a V-shaped exterior is a bomber jet fighter hood. This accedes the driver to set foot in the supercar carbon fiber bodywork. The back-to-back seats are configured according to the drivers’ body requirements. The design can be described as aerodynamic with a racing steering wheel and a triple dashboard layout.
Delage intends to produce just 30 D-12 s and plans to auction their first-ever built car. At the same time, the leftover 29 will be displayed for the public to buy. 2 of these hypercars have already been booked (reservation deposit has been paid). They will get to their possessor in late 2022.
The possession of this hypercar puts a whooping dent of £1,805,887 in the owners’ pocket. However, the Delage D-12 wholly vindicates this extravagant price due to its phenomenal speed, exclusive design, and unparalleled driving experience.
